I think it will be difficult to let go of the secrets of my process to the world at large. Seems like it will remove the mystery and take away some of the power of the work. Who knows? Anyway, I'm not going to describe anything at this point, rather I'll just post this picture of a work in progress. It's about 18 x 24 inches.

It already has the power of mystery. The graphic lines over the smudged map-ishness -- nice combination of painterly and graphic. You don't need to tell your secrets -- just play around . The world will never know what you are concealing....
ReplyDeleteOh, I have seen what a child can do to a good carpet. No fair blaming this all on art. what did he ever do to you anyway? Actually, those are nice lines and I like how they disappear into the paint, or under it or through it... Is it easy making those kinds of lines (like writing your name) or is it a struggle to get lines that look purposefully random?
ReplyDeleteJune - the best thing I can say is that as the work dries overnight it always looks different, so it's even a mystery to me ...
ReplyDeleteAaron - Luckily , that is not my carpet (though we do need a new one, but it's more about the cats). As for the lines, they are both easy, and difficult ... of course.
i dig it, kurt. we all know you are conjuring wood nymphs to make these marks for you while you sleep.
